Reflecting on Race for Grace 2016

“Some people might think it is crazy to ride a bicycle 63.2 miles (100K) in blistering Texas heat, which can often reach or exceed 100 degrees at the height of the summer—but I don’t,” said Liz Willding Robbins.

Why isn’t it crazy? Because she was doing it to support a cause she’s passionate about—helping children in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

On August 27 this year, a sixty-person Race for Grace team participated in Hotter’n Hell 100, the largest single-day bike ride in the country, to raise funds for International Child Care. This was Liz’s third year on the team.

Supporters of ICC have been behind the team since its inception, and you have raised nearly $70,000 this year with funds still coming in! The impact of the dollars is significant, and Grace Children’s Hospital, ICC’s flagship mission, truly feels the love.

On the day of the race, the children in the inpatient ward even wore Race for Grace t-shirts and cheered on the team all the way from Haiti!

“While this year’s Hotter’n Hell event proved to be true to its name, with temperatures reaching the mid-90s, along with high humidity and 16 mph winds, I believe it is safe to say that any one of us who braved the conditions would gladly do it again—and shall, God willing,” Liz said following her ride.
